Is the course recognised and accredited?

The College for Hypnotherapy and Mindfulness is about forward thinking and giving you the best and most up to date materials, knowledge and techniques. Integral to our philosophy is that education never really ends and that all teachers need to keep learning and discovering new ways to hone skills and gain new tools. You will find that our teachers are often excited to hear your views too and will discuss issues in an open and sharing atmosphere. We maintain the highest standards of professional conduct as teachers and clinical hypnotherapist in practice.

Since 2001 the hypnotherapy profession has been moving towards accreditation through Voluntary Self Regulation (VSR). In December 2010 the Register of the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) took over as a regulator of the UK’s Voluntary Self Regulation of Hypnotherapists.

Funded by the UK’s Department of Health at its inception, the CNHC is recommended as the first choice provider to NHS commissioning services looking for registered hypnotherapy practitioners. Graduates of our course are eligible to join the CNHC.

As a training college, we adhere to the strict training standards laid down by the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR), the Hypnotherapy Regulatory Forum (HRF) and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNCH). We constantly refer to the core curriculum, the learning outcomes and the principles of good practice established by these bodies. These documents can be accessed though this link: www.general-hypnotherapy-register.com/hypnotherapy-training-standards

Upon completion of this course, you will be eligible to join the General Hypnotherapy Register and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNCH). Completion of this course is also necessary for applying for professional indemnity and public liability Insurance as a professional hypnotherapist working in the complementary medicine sector. Most students elect to join the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) and as a GHR member you can fast track to join the CNHC.

Once you have completed your course, we also offer supervision and continued professional development. Our graduates are encouraged to continue supporting each other by meeting regularly for peer supervision or study groups with nearby colleagues.

What is the structure of the course?

Course length and structure

Group courses start in October or January, with course completion and graduation in June and September respectively.  You will enjoy a total of 120 hours of in person group instruction, through classroom learning, practical workshops and the hands on practice of your new clinical hypnotherapy skills. The remaining hours consist of written assignment and hours spent practicing your new skills.

In person teaching days are taught over nine units. Each unit lasts two days and are usually held over a weekend, each approximately once a month, for nine months.

The course combines theory and practice. You will learn underlying principles and theory, so that you will have the skills to create your own scripts and treatment plans. You will be encouraged and expected to use your new skills between teaching days. During the course there are also two formal practicums, during which you will see a volunteer client for three sessions. Following each session with your practice client, you will receive supervision. Supervision will help you improve and gain skills of self evaluation and reflection, which are important to be a successful practitioner, able to learn from each client you see and grow your skills.

Compulsory written home study assignments are an integral part of the course. You will also be expected to demonstrate personal study and that you have read books from the course reading list. Following monthly teaching days, you will receive a home assignment, which will include the creation of scripts and treatment plans for common challenges on which your future clients may wish to work. These will be topics such as smoking, weight loss, increasing confidence, phobias, nail biting or insomnia etc. You will also be expected to maintain a log or diary of your practical hypnotherapy experiences. The course also has a written assessment at its conclusion.

What is the Admissions Process?

The course is open to anyone over 21 years of age. You do not require any formal prerequisites however since hypnotherapy uses the skills of speech and language, you will need to demonstrate that your English, both written and spoken, is sufficiently fluent and accurate to work as a hypnotherapist. The course also involves both essay writing and hypnotherapy script writing and candidates are expected to have good written English spelling and grammar. Admission is at the discretion of the course tutors and you will need to demonstrate a willingness to learn, open-mindedness to new ideas and a commitment to see the training through to the end.

Applicants are invited to discuss the course and their suitability for application with one of the course tutors. All applicants are invited to complete an application form and submit a 700 word essay, explaining why they wish to gain a qualification in hypnotherapy. Following the submission of this essay, suitable applicants will be invited for an interview, which may be held in person or by phone or Skype. The purpose of this interview is for both the course tutor and applicant to decide whether the applicant is able to complete course requirements and the course is right for them. Following this interview, a course place is secured by the payment of non-refundable deposit of £250. The balance is due seven days before the first day of the course start date. Payment in instalments is available over six payments but must be cleared in balance by the last module of the course.
